Hedgehog Studios Reviews: Black Death

1st episode is finally up on youtube!

Frustration

So I finished my review of Black Death and submitted it to Blip, and was rejected due to low quality. I was afraid that would happen as my camera is not so great. So before I can re-submit I'll need an HD camera. I then went to put my review on youtube but I would need to verify my account as the video is longer than 10 minutes, but that part of the site isn't working.... I just can't win.

So I made a title card

So I made this just now, see it's all coming together just like I said in the last post.

Update and such

As I said in my last post I was going to work on the projects I had let fall to the side. That's what I have been doing. I have been inking the stack of pages I have for Bullet Time issues 4 and 5, and I completed my script for the black death review. I have been learning premiere elements, and have picked the films for my second and third reviews... I think. Now I just have to harvest the clips I'll need, film the review and edit it. I'll admit starting from nothing knowledge wise on this has had a steeper learning curve than I was expecting. I assume as I get to where I know what I'm doing this process will go faster.

IT IS DONE!

Finally finished issue 5 of Mushroom Murders. It is done and now I fell I can move on to other things that I have let languish by the wayside, like my review of Black Death. Which I will now finish writing the script for, and getting back to work on issue 4 of Bullet Time. I also have to clean my house and get rid of some of the clutter. But enough about that you should be coming here for the funny, not just updated to my crap so here is a little holiday song:

On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
a partridge in a pear tree.
On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree.
On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me.
Three french hens, two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree.
On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Four colly birds, three french hens, two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree.
On the fifth day of Christmas I said to my true love,
WHATS WITH ALL THE FREAKING BIRDS?!?

Wow I missed October

Here's that further update, the amount of detail crammed into the last 10 pages of Mushroom Murders issue 5 was insane. I'm now on the final story page and waiting on the cover to arrive to ink it then the whole thing is done (At least my part of it). So after that on to working on Bullet Time, my first review video, all the household stuff I've neglected for the past month, and Christmas. I'm not  going to get to sleep until 2013 am I?

Crunch Time

Hey There. So I'm almost done writing my first review script, and have learned a bit of the editing software. now I have to buckle done on issue 5 of Mushroom Murders. We want to have issue 5 done in early November so the trade can be out in time for the holidays.
As I stand now 11 pages down 18 to go on the inks. So that will be consuming my time for the foreseeable future. Further updates as they warrant!

Ok, State of thing...

OK, creatively here's where I stand on my projects. I continue to truck forward on my inking for Bullet time issues 4 and 5 and Mushroom murders issue 5. At some point I plan to make some new strips for www.hedgehoggames.com. But that may still be a ways off. The writing for my first review is about half done, and most of the writing for my first "open letter" video is done. I am still working on learning premiere elements 10 So if any knows any good yet free online tutorials that would be awesome. As yet I haven't been able to break 10 twitter followers (@jaconey1) but that's ok. So that's where I stand.

Well, welly well. (and a preview)

So I'm dreadfully behind on my inking, but I've been working to catch up. This does mean my first video will continue to be delayed so in the unlikely chance that anyone has come here more than once to see if I've put a vid up yet....sorry. But Mushroom Murders issue 3 is up for download now at drive thru comics. (only .99) http://comics.drivethrustuff.com/product/104297/The-Mushroom-Murders%3A-Tent-City. Also here's a special treat. The inked 1st page of book 5. So keep checking back.

I know...I know...

So by now you're thinking Jaconey, What the hell man? You promised us videos. Where are they. We are not entertained....WE ARE NOT ENTERTAINED!!!!! I couldn't agree more, and here's the holdup. I want to provide you the best video I can and so the writing is taking longer than I thought. Also I'm taking extra time to refine the script and make it the best I can because I don't want the first episode to suck. Also the editing software that I got has a bit of a higher learning curve than I anticipated. Remember when software came with instruction books? And the last and most important hold up, it's hot here. Averaging 103 during the day and my space I set up to film doesn't have air conditioning. I had foreseen this as an issue when I was setting up, and already decided to get a window unit. however that won't be able to happen until next summer. So there you have it my list of excuses. They are all true, but are still excuses. So patients, Hedgehog Studios is coming .... possibly even soon..... I think.....

Weekend Update

So I'm inking, and writing. I've begun writing the script for my first video. The second video is already written. So once the first one is written then all that is left is to film the two and learn to use the editing software. That shouldn't be hard ......right?

Slacking off

Not really, but I feel like I should be accomplishing so much more lately. The house is a disaster area, but I've been going through stuff and getting rid of some things so underneath it's getting cleaner I guess. I've done a great deal in the garage, which is where I'm setting up my filming space. I finished repairing and painting the piece of furniture I rescued from an apartment dumpster. It came out nice, if the people who tossed it could see it they would want it back. They are shit out of luck. I also acquired a bookcase that someone put out with a "Free" note on it. Its nice, not prefab. Solid wood but bad paint job. They had tried to "antique" it and did a terrible job. I'm gonna give it a light sanding,  paint it red and use it as a pantry in the kitchen. Why you ask? Because the people who designed this house thought closet and cabinet space was of the devil. I've also been doing some yard work beyond the standard mowing and what not. Inking you ask? Why yes, but not nearly enough. I also need to update my paperwork for paying job. The only thing I've come close on is my filming space is 95% done, and I filmed a first test for sound and lighting. Now the cool item for this post http://www.youtube.com/user/geekandsundry

Geek and Sundry is the youtube channel for The Guild, Dark Horse Motion Comics and Wil Wheatons Table Top. It's excellent programming and Table top is better than I ever would have expected it to be.

That's all for now.

So what have you been up too?

As for me I've been busy. I finished issue 4 of Mushroom Murders. started issue 5 and continued on issue 4 of Bullet Time. Only 64 more pages and both projects will be complete. I got (I think) everything I need to repair my set piece for the making of Hedgehog Studios videos. This week I need to start video testing to see if the camera will be close enough for it's mic to be enough or if I'll have to buy a clip on or whatever. Hobbies are hard work. Finally I have nothing funny to say myself today so I'll leave you with a link to the badass webcomic Spinnerette. It's good, so go read it, preferably while you're at work. STICK IT TO THE MAN!!!!!!!!

I know, I know....

So here's how everything is going here. I was way sick for the last week and got nothing done. Nothing. I hate that. So now I'm trying to catch up. I'm inking pages of Bullet time and Mushroom murders. Mushroom murders #4 is almost done. I did take a couple of hours out to learn to make rifftrax DVD's. Both because I wanted them and the programs used will give me more video editing flexibility....I think. I now have everything I need to do video reviews. I bought the paint fro the desk last night. Now I have to repair the desk, as it was second hand (OK I picked it up next to a dumpster, are you happy?) and build the set. I have assembled the studio lights. That's where everything stands. Now back to work to get a little bit more done before gaming tonight.

Bwa hahahahhahha

My grinchy video plans are much closer to becoming reality. I just bought a copy of Bandicam, which is a pretty neat program. I got all the supplies I needed for my set, except for the paint. (I need to paint the chest of drawers I'll be using as a desk) I ordered the video editing software from amazon saving almost 50 bucks over our local Best Buy (between that and the service I have gotten there over the last 2 years it's no wonder they are dying, but that's a rant for another time). Finally I got 2 1000 watt work lights with tripod stands, and a Sony camcorder. Thank you tax refund. Now to start setting it up and figure out what to do first.

Another unfunny update

Yeah I know, I'm disappointed in myself too. Things have been ...we'll say challenging at casa del Jaconey. Sure that's a nice way to put that between work and the personal events of the last month I'm in a constant state of exhaustion. But not sleep deprived enough to have hallucinations because I just can't win. Anyhoo, as far making videos goes I got my taxes into my CPA. This is related, trust me. And they were done and sent on time and I'll be getting a refund which will cover the remaining cost of the things I need to get started like the camera, software, and lighting equipment . So I'm pretty well thrilled with that. As far as reviews go I'm not yet sure what to do first, but my son, whom we'll call Bconey wants me to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked with him. So I don't think I'll ultimately be at a loss for options. I'm almost done inking Mushroom Murders issue 4, but I'm just crawling on Bullet Time issue 4. Now I'm gonna go to bed for an unbelievably short amount of time before work.

Just an unfunny update

Just a quick note on my progress. I finished inking page 16 of issue 4 of Mushroom Murders. Have almost finished page 7 of Bullet Time issue 4. I opened a twitter account @jaconey1, I hope I put that right. As for doing video reviews which I still plan to do ASAP, Things are tight money wise at the moment so that's moving slowly, but I continue to work on my set, and I got a tripod. Still need 3 pieces of video software, a decent camera, and lighting. But I will get there. Sorry that this post wasn't at all funny. To make it up to you my loyal readers (meaning the spambots that have webcrawled the site) here is a nyancat video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzVwuwqddWc. Sure there are plenty of these but I love the music on this one.
